Traffic Tickets

(Citations)

The goal of the Tiverton Police Department’s traffic enforcement program is to promote the safe, orderly and expeditious flow of vehicular traffic and deliver traffic-related services designed to reduce the number of traffic accidents. The Tiverton Police Department’s Uniform Division will enforce traffic laws in a consistent and courteous manner to foster a positive public image, while providing all necessary police traffic related services.

What It Means to Pay Your Traffic Ticket

Essentially, paying your RI traffic ticket is an admission of guilt―even if you plead "no contest." Other points to remember about paying your Rtraffic ticket:

  • You can pay a Traffic Tribunal ticket online or pay by mail.  Tiverton Municipal violations may be paid by mail or at Tiverton Police Headquarters, 20 Industrial Way, Tiverton RI 02878.

  • Some RI traffic violations are serious enough for a suspended or revoked driver's license.

  • Depending on your driving history, you could receive a habitual offender label.

  • You auto insurance company will probably increase your rates.

  • The judge might dismiss your traffic ticket on a good driving record claim.

Good Driving Record Ticket Dismissal

Per Rhode Island's “good driving record" statute, you can request the court dismiss your traffic ticket based on your good driving record; if the court agrees, your traffic ticket will disappear. However, you must still pay all related court costs.

Plead Not Guilty in Rhode Island

Some drivers find pleading "guilty" and paying their fines more convenient than contesting their charges; others don't.  You can enter a "not guilty" plea during your arraignment and schedule a hearing to fight your traffic case in court.

Pay Your Rhode Island Traffic Ticket Online

You can pay your ticket online if your ticket is through the Traffic Tribunal. Visit the Rhode Island Judiciary Online Payment system to get started. NOTE: Some traffic violations require the driver to appear in court. Check your traffic ticket for information about a mandatory court appearance before paying your ticket fine and moving on.  Keep reading if your traffic ticket is with the Tiverton Municipal Court.

Tiverton Municipal Court
